What to Expect on Your First Visit

Making the decision to come to therapy, whether it is for you of for a family member or loved one can be a stressful experience. Many people experience anxiety prior to even making that first phone call, and some even hang up out of fear of not knowing what to say or ambivalence about getting the help they need. At Social Work Counseling Services, we strive to make your overall experience a positive one from start to finish. Here is a basic outline of what you can expect when you contact our agency:

  • Making the call: You will be greeted by Maribel our office administrator or Brienna our office assistant. If you call and there is no answer please leave a voicemail. Don’t hang up. You’ve gotten this far, keep going! Leave a message and we will call you back. There is also an emergency line that you can call that will get you immediate assistance. That number can be found on our contact us page.

  • Next, the office staff will email you the registration documents via our E-sign company, SignNow. Once electronically completed and signed (a hard copy is available if you prefer), we will verify your insurance benefits and contact you with an intake appointment. Maribel, or Brienna will also advise you if your policy has any unmet deductible. Your insurance company sets copay and deductible amounts, not our agency.

  • Meeting your therapist for the first time is exciting and can be anxiety provoking for some people. Your therapist will introduce themselves and ask you some questions for the intake. You will have the opportunity to ask as many questions as you want as well. Some people have a lot to say at first, while others really don’t know what to say or why they are experiencing the feelings that have brought them into treatment. That’s ok. Don’t feel pressured to talk if you can’t and don’t worry about talking too much.

  • You are now on your road to a better, more balanced sense of self.
